Each year the holidays bring such a variety of feelings for people. Feelings that can vary from year to year depending on the situation. Some years bring feelings such as joy, laughter, gratitude other years, stress, sadness, frustration, loneliness, or a combination of several of these emotions. This last month, an overwhelming feeling continues to stick with me… connection and the fulfillment it brings.
Connections to:
Past colleagues and co-workers-hearing about their families, careers, trials, and accomplishments
Clients (current and past) – giving insight, guidance, and a positive outlook to moving forward in their roles and business
Childhood friends – spending long overdue time together like no time has past by
Family friends – sharing updates or being supportive when hearing about their struggles and unthinkable situations
Parents of our kids’ friends – the few minutes of catch-up at a gas station, hospitality on visits, or being there for major milestones events
Our kids and their friends – watching them through the ups and downs of their journey or getting a thank you for ways that we had helped
The extended family – getting to reconnect and spend time even when in some cases it has been years or others days
Our immediate family – having them all under the same roof for a week, and making time to enjoy the games, laughter, and conversations even if it meant I lost sleep!
These moments leave memories and reminders of how time goes so quickly and how important it is to make time for others.
Several people I know participate in the one word challenge each new year. Where they select a word of what will be their guide for the year. Something to focus on in the year ahead, it could be items like your purpose, health, prayer, forgiveness, organization, relaxation, and more.
My word for this year will be connection and I looking forward to connecting more this year!
